Walls System Virtual Museum

The Virtual Museum is a narrative and interactive tool that allows you to discover the wall circuit and the access gates to the city according to three main thematic areas: the Paths and the Gates, whose topographical and architectural changes over time can be followed (Servian, Aurelian, Vatican and Pope Urbano VIII Walls), the Itineraries, routes suggested to “travelers” following today’s urban topography along the walls and, finally, the Stories from the Walls section where you can meet iconic places and characters.
Developed by the Institute of Cultural Heritage Sciences of the National Research Council (CNR – ISPC ) in collaboration with archaeologists and art historians of the Capitoline Superintendence, it is aimed at citizens and students according to the model of “citizen science” for democratic participation and knowledge sharing through technological tools.

The Museum is an overview of the defensive system of the city and at the same time offers suggestions on the social fabric and on the life of the city in different historical periods.
The visitor has the opportunity to explore virtually the places of border, opening and exclusion to the city, in a time travel space that reaches to the present day.

The section dedicated to Porta Appia – San Sebastiano enriches the project with a multimedia in-depth analysis of the walkway towers through video narration of characters from the past and 3D reproduction of the towers.
