Mission and Seat

The main objective of the Documentation Centre is to promote the knowledge of Rome as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and raise awareness of what such status implies and involves.

The ambition of the Centre is to address to a wild variety of subject who, in different ways, interface with the eternal city: first of all citizens, torurists, studend, scholars and researchers, public administrators, private professionals.

The Centre aims to be a new point of reference for those who are interested in deepening issues related to the cultural identity of the Site of Rome which has led to its inclusion in the World Heritage List, to the risks and opportunities arising from the various human activities in that city in relation to the need to preserve the characteristics of integrity and authenticity of the site, to strategies to improve its usability, livability and protection in the perspective of sustainability research and enhancement

The Centre does not want to be a new point of tourist information of Rome or of spreading its beauties in general, while providing the possibility of carrying out activities in this regard, but over time it intends to be a point of reference for those who – in view of the values promoted by UNESCO – are interested in deepening issues related to the specific cultural identity of the cross-border site of Rome, which has led to its inclusion in the World Heritage List, to the risks and opportunities arising from the various human activities that take place there in relation to the need to preserve the characteristics of integrity and authenticity of the site, to strategies to improve its usability, livability and protection in the perspective of sustainability research and enhancement cultural plurality that characterize the city.

The Documentation Centre is located inside the ancient Porta del Popolo –  Piazza del Popolo 11 D. The Centre will be operational at the end of 2021.
